Osun Assembly Begins Park Management Bill Deliberation, Seeks End to Thuggery, Revenue Leakages

The Osun State House of Assembly has commenced consideration of the Osun State Park Management System Bill, 2026, a private member bill sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim.
The bill seeks to establish a comprehensive park management system under the supervision of the Ministry of Works and Transportation.
Among its key provisions is the introduction of a unified ticketing system across motor parks in the state, with the aim of decentralising ticketing operations and improving transparency in revenue collection.
The proposed legislation also provides for a 70/30 revenue-sharing arrangement, with 70 per cent accruing to the state government and 30 per cent going to the management of the parks. It further seeks to address thuggery, violence and other activities capable of disrupting transportation and business activities within the parks.
Contributing to the debate, the member representing Ife South Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Adeoti, said the bill would help block leakages in tax collection while promoting accountability and competence in the appointment of park managers. He also advocated a digitalised park management system to enhance transparency and prevent violence.
The member representing Ede South state Constituency, Hon. Taofeek Olayiwola, expressed support for the bill, noting that a properly regulated park management system could help prevent the recurrence of violence often associated with periods following elections.
The Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Olawale Akerele, said the proposed law would provide a legal framework for the effective management of motor parks, while the member representing Obokun Constituency, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, noted that transportation remained an important source of internally generated revenue for the state and that the legislation would enable Osun to derive greater benefits from the sector.
The number one parliamentarian, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun expressed support for the bill after careful consideration of its advantages, if passed into law.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Mass Education Agency Bill, 2024, was committed to the House Committee on Education for further review and is expected to be presented before the House within two weeks. The Assembly thereafter adjourned its sitting until September 22, 2026.
