Governor Adeleke Departs for Vacation in Europe, Orders Probe into Koka Obaship Dispute

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has departed Nigeria for a short vacation in Europe, even as he directed an immediate investigation into the emerging dispute over the kingship of Koka Ilase town in Obokun Local Government Area.
The governor, who left the country on Saturday through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, said the trip would also afford him the opportunity to undergo routine medical checks. He is expected to visit the United Kingdom and other destinations to be announced later.
Speaking before his departure, Governor Adeleke described the break as necessary to “refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State.”
*Probe Ordered into Koka Chieftaincy Tussle*
In a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor instructed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate circumstances surrounding the alleged appointment of a second king for Koka Ilase, a development that has reportedly created tension in the community.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool,” the governor said. “The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight.”
He directed the ministry to review the situation in line with extant chieftaincy laws and tradition, and to enforce due process in resolving the matter.
The governor further called on all stakeholders in Koka Ilase to remain calm and peaceful while the investigation is ongoing.
“Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” Adeleke stated, urging residents not to take the law into their hands.
*Administration Remains Stable*
The governor assured citizens that governance in the state would continue uninterrupted in his absence, with the Deputy Governor and other top officials overseeing state affairs.
Koka Ilase, a historic town in Obokun LGA, has in recent days witnessed conflicting claims to the throne, prompting concerns among residents and traditional stakeholders.
