Empowering NULGE Members: Equal Rights and Fair Elections

By Comrade Tiamiyu Kazeem
The constitution,of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) just like every other unions allows financial member the right to vote and be voted to occupy positions at the Local ,state and national levels of the union.
The ongoing allegations and counter-allegations among factions on various platforms of our noble union won’t help move NULGE forward in Osun. Instead, we should focus on getting to know all the contestants and assessing their abilities, courage, and zeal to lead our union.
Organizing a presidential-style debate where contestants will present their manifestos and answer questions would be a great step forward. This would demonstrate NULGE’s maturity in conducting fair and unbiased elections.
While our current method of choosing voters may be flawed, it’s essential to remember that all financial members have equal rights and should be able to vote for their preferred candidates. In fact, our branch elections have shown a better approach than that of the state.
Let’s acknowledge that contestants are motivated not just by staff welfare but also by personal interests and relationships with those in power. Therefore, it’s crucial that we make informed decisions when choosing our executives at both branches and state levels.
By doing what’s right, we can build a formidable and virile NULGE team that works collaboratively with the winner, ultimately driving progress in Osun.
Let us remember that NULGE is one indivisible entity.Together we can do it.
Progress!
