Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday charged members of the Accord Party to work for the success of the party’s candidates in the forthcoming National and State Assembly elections, warning that severe disciplinary action awaits anyone found engaging in anti-party activities.

The Governor gave the warning at a closed-door stakeholders’ forum held in Osogbo, where the party leadership resolved to clamp down on members allegedly supporting candidates of other political parties including PDP, APM, APP and APC.

Rising from the meeting, the Accord in Osun noted with concern reports of some party members and leaders allegedly backing candidates of rival parties ahead of the 2027 legislative elections.

The stakeholders resolved that all internal disagreements over the selection of candidates must be resolved immediately, and the party must present a united front behind candidates already fielded.

“I task us to support our party candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections. We must avoid anti-party activities. Severe sanction awaits any party member who works against the candidates of the party,” Governor Adeleke declared.

He further directed the party leadership to set up a small committee to monitor constituencies where such “abnormalities” have been reported, with a mandate to call members to order and apply sanctions where necessary.

“Under no circumstances should any Accord member be caught sponsoring or working for legislative candidates of other political parties. Such behavior will not be tolerated,” the forum resolved.

The meeting also directed the Osun Accord leadership to activate monitoring actions across the state to identify members involved in anti-party conduct and ensure urgent corrective measures.

Party leaders at the forum emphasized that unity and loyalty remain critical if Accord is to make significant gains in the National and State Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke used the opportunity to express gratitude to party members for their resilience during the last electioneering period.

“I am deeply grateful to our party members for their depth of loyalty and courageous disposition throughout the democratic struggle. Osun people trusted us and they fought for us under the divine direction of God Almighty,” he said.

“We praise God Almighty, the courageous people of Osun state, the electoral commission and you, our loyal party members and leaders. I will remain steadfast in my commitment to the people, the party and God almighty.”

The Governor also charged all Accord candidates to run an inclusive campaign.

“I have also tasked our candidates to reach out to all segments of the party. We must run an inclusive campaign. All shades of opinion must be mobilised for resounding success in future elections,” he admonished.

The stakeholders’ forum ended with a renewed call for discipline, unity and aggressive grassroots mobilization ahead of the polls.
