Local Government Information Officers Hold National Conference in Abuja

Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria held a National Conference at Green Mind Hotel, Utako,Abuja between 19th and 22nd November.
The conference brought together information officers from across the 774 Local Governments in the country
According to the organiser of the Conference Mallam Abdulwakeel Ademola Abdulwahab, Director ITEC Consultancy Services ,the motive is to bring all information officers in the Local Government together in order to tackle pressing challenges on grassroots information management.
The four day conference was declared open by Director,Legals, National Orientation Agency, Barrister William Dogo who represented the director General of National Orientation Agency. According to him,
He charged Local Government information officers to rise up to the present challenges by bringing government activities to the grassroots. He further assured them of government support to enhance their effective and optimal performance.
Alh. Olaitan Balogun, a former staff of MAMSER and first Local Government information Officer in Kwara State, also spoke on all what it takes to be an efficient and productive local government information officer.
Some key resolutions from the conference included enhancing information management systems and fostering synergy between the National Orientation Agency and local information officers for national development . These resolutions aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in Nigeria.
Attendees shared experiences and expertise, providing valuable insights into effective information management strategies.
The conference featured interactive sessions, workshops, and networking events, empowering participants to learn from experts and peers.
Some of the conference’s main objectives included: Strengthening Information Management, Enhancing information management systems at local government levels to ensure effective dissemination of information. Fostering Collaboration between the National Orientation Agency and local information officers for national development. and Proactive Information Management.
At the Conference,the national Chairman and Secretary of the Association were appointed . They are Alhaji Bisala Jibril from Niger state as the chairman and Comrade Ibitoye Jamiu from Osun state as Secretary General. Other states chairmen are to work with them pending the time a whole executive would be constituted.
The Conference praised the Osun State Governor and the state government for upgrading the Local Government Information unit to a full fledged Department. Other states are also urged to follow suit.
