Osun NUJ Press Week: Traditional Ruler Urges Journalists on Fairness on News Reportage

The Elegboro of ljebu-jesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba(Engr.)Olufemi Agunsoye has charged members of the pen profession to ensure fairness and objectivity in their reportage of events as the country moves towards the year 2023 general elections.

Oba Olufemi Agunsoye gave this charge in Osogbo,the Osun State capital while speaking at the dinner and award night of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osun State Council which held at the Olu Osungbohun Hall yesterday.

The royal father who described journalists as the shakers and movers of the society however enjoined them to be more focused and dedicated in the discharge of their social responsibilities to the Nigerian nation.

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the Osun State Council Chairman of the NUJ,Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu said this year’s edition of Press Week was unique as it focused on topical issues affecting the growth and development of our nation as the union used the week to”provoke debates on better ways of repositioning our dear country for socio-economic development”.

Comrade Ajadosu added that the union also used the occasion of its Press Week to evaluate democracy and the roles of media professionals as well as means of strengthening the nation’s constitution for enduring democracy and sustainable development.

The Vice President,’B’Zone of the NUJ, Comrade Ronke Samo who represented the NUJ President of the union, Chief Chris lsiguzo remarked that Press Week offers members of the fourth estate of the realm the opportunity to reflect on their personal and collective activities which they rarely have time to attend to as they are always preoccupied with societal issues.

Six distinguished personalities were honoured at the event for their contributions in their callings and service to humanity.

These include Mr Rauf Olaiya,a renowned business magnate in Osogbo,Mr.Ambrose Obafemi Okediya,an administrator of note and bursar of Osun State Polytechnic, lree,Mr.Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla,a People’s Democratic Party Chieftain and Senatorial Candidate of the Party for Osun Central Senatorial district.

Others are Engr.ldris Adegboyega Adeoye ,a philanthropist of note and Managing Director of HMF Construction Company, Dr.Aderibigbe Saba Costly, founder and Executive Director of Value Female Network, Dr.Siji Olamiju,a politician and Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Public Health and Osun State Health lnsurance Agency as outstanding agency of the year.

Some members of the union who had shown commitment and dedication to duty were also given professional awards at the ceremony.

This include Bisola Ariwodola as best Information officer of the year; Sola Aderinto as the best Photojournalist of the year while Lateef Dada won the award of the Best Investigative Journalist of the year.

Olusola Egbodofo won the best Broadcaster Radio of the year ;Saheed Adeboje as the best Broadcaster Electronic and Ayobami Agboola won the Best Journalist in Prints.

Uniq FM Ilesa claimed the award of the Best Radio Station of the year.

Chairman”s award went to Mr Akintunji Akinleye his boss in office for giving the chairman an enabling environment to discharge his service to the union.
